As we get older we need to incorporate healthy skin care habits into our daily skin care routine. Our skin is the largest organ and the one that protects the rest of our organs from the effects of the environment. If we take good care of our skin it will take good care of us by helping it do its job. Along with your regular cleansing and moisturizing, these 10 tips are some other ways to help keep your skin healthy and glowing.

 

  1. Avoid Sun exposure

    It has been proven that sun exposure, especially during the peak hours of the day from Noon to 2:00 p.m., will age you and damage your skin. So don’t leave home without your hat and wearing sunscreen with at least a 30 SPF.

  2. Eat healthy food

    I call these “healthy skin food”. Foods that actually benefit your skin form the inside out such as salmon, broccoli, almonds and berries.

  3. Do not smoke

    This goes without saying. The effects of taking in carbon monoxide is not only detrimental to your health but ultimately bad for your skin.

  4. Avoid excessive alcohol

    Excessive use of alcohol will dehydrate your skin making it appear dry, sluggish and greyish in appearance. Limit your intake of alcohol or do not drink it at all.

  5. Drink plenty of water

    Nothing is more important to our bodies than adequate intake of water. You want to keep your hydrated. This will help to plump up your skin and give it a fresh glow.

  6. Get plenty of rest

    Yes it is true, there is such a thing as “beauty sleep!” 7-9 hours of sleep each day helps to keep your skin healthy by regenerating skin cells which is important for glowing skin.

  7. Stay active and exercise regularLY

    Regular exercise helps keep your skin healthy by circulating blood throughout your system and taking oxygen to every cell including skin cells. This rejuvenates your skin.

  8. Avoid stress as much as possible

    I believe self-care is important for healthy skin. We all come across some type of stress in our lives but it’s how we handle it and what we do to curtail it. I find yoga, meditation, a long walk or a good book may help.

  9. Regular facials
