Congratulations! You’re getting married. There is so much to plan and prepare before the big day. Once you have confirmed a date the planning frenzy will begin. One thing that should not be overlooked, and many times it is, is your skin! If you want your photos to look beautiful you need to start with a clean, healthy canvas. If you’re taking the time to find the best photographer and makeup artist, you want to also ensure you have the picture perfect face. Your skin is where it all starts. Here are a few tips to think about to prepare your skin for your big day.

Have a Plan

First, in order to have picture perfect skin you need to plan at least a year ahead of time. If you don’t have a year to plan, then plan for it as soon as you are engaged. Unfortunately, there are no magic wands to wave to create beautiful skin. It will take time and consistency in care.

Always Cleanse and Moisturize

If you don’t want to splurge on a facial every month then use quality products and start a simple, but effective skincare routine. You need to incorporate a good cleanser and moisturizer, like my Sky Essentials Biocleanse and Ultra Light Hydrating Fluid, to see optimal results. Always be sure to cleanse both morning and night.

Use a Facial Mask

You should use good facial mask in to your routine at least once a week. Look at your skin and identify your biggest concern and then purchase a mask that will address that concern. Whether its acne, dryness or just a dull complexion, there is a mask out there for you.

Exfoliate

Exfoliate at least twice a week. Find an exfoliant that is gentle yet effective. Don’t scrub hard, scrubbing hard will not make your skin brighter but can irritate your skin and make it worse.

Wear Sunscreen

Always wear sunscreen. It should be worn all year round, regardless if it’s Summer or Winter. You need to protect your skin from the damaging UVA and UVB light produced by the sun rays which can affect you any time you are outside. A sunscreen with an SPF of 30 works well.

Look at What you’re Eating

Skin care is about the body as a whole. When treating skin conditions, it’s important to also look at your diet and identify foods that are possibly causing breakouts or unhealthy looking skin. Cut out unnecessary sugars or processed foods and add foods that will benefit your digestive system like fresh berries (great antioxidants) and foods such as salmon, almonds and mushrooms. These can all help you to have beautiful, glowing skin. You may want to consider incorporating foods that heal your gut such as kefir or bone broth.

Hydrate

Drinking a lot of water will help keep your skin hydrated. Skin cells are made up of water, especially the skin cells in the dermal layer of your skin of your face. Without enough water, those cells do not function well and it will show in your appearance. Always have your water bottle handy. If you are like me and have a hard time taking in a lot of water try adding some flavoring to it so it is easier to enjoy.

Remove Your Makeup

Don’t go to sleep with makeup on. This is a big no no! It can clog pores and cause your skin to break out as well as increase the signs of aging. Use a natural cleanser to help remove your make up like my Sky Essentials Foaming Antioxidant Cleanser. Its sulfate-free formula dissolves make up and impurities on contact.

Get Enough Sleep

This is a hectic crazy time for you. Make sure you are getting your “beauty” sleep, 7-9 hours a night is ideal. Researchers have found that our circadian rhythm, our internal biological clocks, control our mood, hormones and skin health as well.  When our circadian rhythm is disrupted, your skin is not able to fend off damage and repair itself effectively, causing breakdown of collagen and elastin. So go get some sleep! Your skin will thank you way after the wedding.

Take Time to Relax

This can be an extremely hectic and stressful time for you and when a person is stressed it can affect their skin. So be sure and make time for yourself. Go for walks, exercise, take a yoga class, or meditate. Do whatever you enjoy that will help you to relax. You’ll feel refreshed and ready for your big day.
